Oryx and Crake Reading Journal - day 1

Before I begin, I just want to let you guys know that.............that I am no good at reading. I find reading super boring most of the times and I am über slow at reading. But, I will definitely do my best to make this blog interesting. Actually I don't even know why I just said that. I guess I just had a really long day. Yea......I might sometimes go on and on off topic so please understand :)

Now the real novel study begins!!!!!

Among many other so called good Canadian novels (I really do not understand why some books are the best sellers after reading them), I chose to read "Oryx and Crake." The reason why I chose is is not because all of my friends were doing it; and I'm not saying that because my teacher told me not to. Having read few summaries of suggested books, this book was the only one that seemed interesting. All the other books are about wars and how difficult and hard time one can go through blah blah blah all the mainstream boring things. Others are about different race trying to fit in and going through to get to the top blah blah blah MORE MAINSTREAM! BORING! So I chose this novel, which is a fiction. Yes, that is right. All those non-fiction lovers will not find what they want here. So that was how I came to choose this particular novel.

So I have read first two chapters on my ebook( kobo e-ink e reader is pretty dope xD) and I did find the story interesting. Even though I am a slow reader(by slow i mean extremely slow), I don't think I am gonna have any trouble reading this novel. I am not too far into the story yet, since I just figured out how to download ebooks yesterday(excuses, excuses....I know :P), but if I had to connect it to the real life it will the relationship between two unfriendly brothers with huge age gaps. The small brother will always ask somethings that they don't get to the older brother, who so old and unfriendly that he cannot care less. And, being a young one, the little brother will go around doing dumb things, which the older brother cannot quite understand.

Well I guess that is it for my first novel study. Thank you for reading all these, I really do because I am guessing that nobody will read this at all, which will be a lie if you are reading this currently. Have a nice day! And I am going back to League of Legends :D

  1. I read slow too, so don't worry. When you read enough, you'll start reading faster. At least that was what happened when I was in grade 6 and 7, when I was trying to read all of the Harry Potter books, which were, to me at the time, a nearly impossible feat. I've slowed down again after high school, since I feel that I've read most of the books I am interested in. I recently found a very good series call the Kingkiller Trilogy (it's fiction too, and fantasy fiction!). I'm still waiting eagerly for the third book...

Anyway, in terms of Oryx and Crake, I was lazy and did not read past chapter 3. Instead, I read Wikipedia's the summary, and to me, it doesn't really seem like a big-brother-small-brother conflict, but rather a conflict between two friends. One who is very clever and one who is less clever but more passionate about life (I'm not that sure about this part). I already spoiled the book for myself, so I will try not to do the same to you.

  2. I think you can definitely understand better about the how different brothers' ways of thinking can be especially when their age gaps are huge. I'm only three years older than my brother, but our POVs are definitely different. In addition, you know that other choices are also fictions, right? And I can tell you that , the one I'm reading now, has distinct differences compared to other war novels. I admit that the general mood is very gloomy, but it's worth reading it. So try it later :) But I think the plot of your book is very interesting.
